A Government That Serves the People, Not Just the Powerful
Feb 17, 2025Today, as we reflect on President’s Day, let’s remember what the founders of our democracy truly believed in—a government that serves the people, not just one person. George Washington could have ruled for life, yet he chose to step down, setting a precedent for a nation where power should never be concentrated in one individual's hands. This principle shaped American democracy, ensuring that government remained a service to the public, not a tool for political control.
Yet today, the very system designed to protect democracy—our federal workforce—is under attack. Career federal employees, who have dedicated their lives to serving the American people, are being fired or pushed out not because of inefficiency or wrongdoing, but because of political agendas like Project 2025.
Federal Employees: The Backbone of Our Nation
Federal employees are not political operatives; they are public servants who work under Republican and Democratic administrations alike. Their mission is simple: to serve the American people. These are the professionals who:
- Keep Social Security running for millions of Americans
- Respond to natural disasters and protect public safety
- Ensure our food, water, and air remain safe
- Enforce laws and protect national security
They are veterans, scientists, law enforcement officers, healthcare workers, and policy experts. Without them, essential services would crumble, leaving the nation vulnerable.
The Real Threat to Democracy
Despite their critical role, thousands of these workers are being targeted for removal—not because of performance, but because they refuse to be political pawns. The very protections that prevent government jobs from being weaponized are being dismantled.
Let’s be clear: weakening the federal workforce doesn’t make government more efficient. In fact, it creates instability, wastes taxpayer money, and opens the door for corruption. If experienced professionals are replaced by unqualified loyalists, the government stops serving the people and starts serving a select few.
Stand Up for Public Service
Honoring Washington’s legacy means standing up for a government that works for everyone, not just the wealthy and powerful. Federal employees should be supported, not attacked, for their commitment to public service.
That’s why we created The Mindful Federal Employee Power Hub Membership—a community where federal employees can find support, resources, and strategies to navigate workplace challenges while protecting their careers. If you’re a federal worker facing uncertainty, or if you simply want to stay informed, consider joining us. Together, we can ensure that democracy—and those who defend it—remain strong.
Let’s protect the integrity of public service. Let’s protect democracy.
